Serving the Community Through Preparedness

On 8 May 2018, Capt. Mir Shakeel UrRahman had the privilege of participating in a public awareness programme organised by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority at Yasmeen Mall in Jeddah to mark International Red Crescent Day. He joined the initiative with the Friends Bikers Team, supporting an activity dedicated to public safety and humanitarian awareness.

The occasion brought together Saudi Red Crescent personnel, volunteers and members of the public to highlight the importance of emergency preparedness, first aid awareness and appropriate action during medical emergencies.

Working Alongside the Saudi Red Crescent

The programme provided an opportunity for the participating volunteers and bikers to engage with visitors and support the awareness activities. Its central message was the value of understanding emergency response and basic first aid, particularly during the critical moments before professional medical assistance arrives.

As part of the event, members of the biker community received official Saudi Red Crescent safety vests in appreciation of their participation. The presentation recognised their involvement in the programme and is preserved in the original photographs, alongside the group gathering with Saudi Red Crescent personnel.

The Friends Bikers Team contributed its presence and participation to an initiative that connected the biking community with public awareness and humanitarian service. The gathering demonstrated how community groups can support established organisations in communicating important safety messages to the public.

A Personal Reflection

Throughout my years of community involvement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I have valued opportunities to contribute to activities that benefit people beyond my professional responsibilities. Participating in this International Red Crescent Day programme reinforced the importance of public awareness as part of a wider commitment to community well-being.

“Helping people prepare before an emergency occurs is a meaningful way to serve the community.” — Capt. Mir Shakeel UrRahman
